The largest city on the island of Kauai, Lihue serves as the main transportation hub for the island. Nawiliwili Bay serves as the main seaport for the island and receives cargo and cruise ships daily. The Lihue Airport also receives service from various airlines with flights to the neighbor islands as well as the U.S. Mainland through Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Francisco, and Seattle. With a population of just over 6,000 residents, Lihue is also home to the island’s largest shopping mall, the Kukui Grove Center that includes big-box retailers like Macys, Kmart, Costco, Home Depot, and Wal-Mart. An exceptional selection of car dealerships and restaurants also lines the streets of downtown Lihue.
