Home to the Hilton Waikoloa Village and 4,900 residents, the town of Waikoloa was originally created as a fishing harbor village for local fisherman to moor their boats at Honokohau Harbor. However, the town has grown over the years around the exclusive resort and in the process has created a relatively upscale surrounding neighborhood. Residents of Waikoloa real estate condominiums or houses for sale are attracted to the upper class feeling, sincere neighbors, easy beach access, beautiful landscape, and convenient location. The town is centered around annual activities and events including the Great Waikoloa Ukulele Festival, Dolphin Days, Great Waikoloa Rubber Duckie Race, 4th of July Extravaganza, Aloha Festivals Ho‘olaule‘a, and Passport to International Cultures Expo.

An excellent selection of area beaches provides residents and visitors with pristine beaches, recreational activities, and sunny weather. The Anaehoomalu Bay and Beach and Kiholo Bay Beach are area Waikoloa favorites. The Hapuna Beach nearby has been named amongst the world's best beaches by Conde Nast Magazine. On any day of the week and at almost any hour, boogie boarding, snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, and windsurfing can be viewed on the shores of Waikoloa beaches. A local favorite surf spot is located just outside of Kawaihae Harbor. Additionally, due to the area’s wealth, excursions are planned in the winter to snow ski atop Mauna Kea.
The expansion of the Waikoloa Village means that the Waikoloa Beach Course, Waikoloa King's Course, and King’s Trail to the fishponds are all readily accessible. The Waikoloa Petroglyph Field and Mamalahoa Trail are also interesting attractions that capture Waikoloa’s rich heritage and the ancient Hawaiian spirit.
