Named Princeville in 1860 in honor of Hawaii's crown prince, Prince Albert, the Princeville area has been home to sugar plantations and a cattle ranch for years. However, only recently did Princeville develop into a larger, more diversified community. Accordingly, Princeville is a planned resort community of 1700 residents on the north shore of Kauai, and is home to the Princeville Resort as a result. The annual Kauai Polynesian Festival and Banana Poka Round-Up also take place in Princeville each year.
