In the times of ancient Hawaii, the early islanders enjoyed the cool and clear water gushing from the ground and named the spring Waipahu. Considered in those early days as the capitol of Oahu, Hawaiian royalty often gathered in the area and refreshed themselves with the water from the spring. Eventually, Waipahu outgrew that stage and began to develop agriculture. Waipahu is a former sugar plantation town in central Oahu.
