In the times of ancient Hawaii, the early islanders enjoyed the cool and clear water gushing from the ground and named the spring Waipahu. Considered in those early days as the capitol of Oahu, Hawaiian royalty often gathered in the area and refreshed themselves with the water from the spring. Eventually, Waipahu outgrew that stage and began to develop agriculture. Waipahu is a former sugar plantation town in central Oahu. Once a simple cluster of shacks used to accommodate the field workers, Waipahu grew in size as Honolulu began to get full in the mid 1900s. With this rich past and interesting history, Waipahu is filled with myth and legend about the area’s distant past.
