Information About Living in Kaneohe
Kaneohe is the largest of several communities along Kaneohe Bay and one of the two largest residential communities on the windward side of Oahu, alongside Kailua. Dating back to the times of the ancient Hawaiians, Kaneohe served as an important agricultural area due to the tremendous rainfall that the area experiences. Over time, Kaneohe has since changed as today is mostly a residential community with very little agriculture less. Banana crops are the sole remaining commodity from the days long past. Residents of Kaneohe real estate homes or condominiums for sale enjoy the lush greenery, nearby activities, and beautiful views, making Kaneohe such a desirable place to live. The H-3 Interstate eases the commute into downtown Honolulu for the many Kaneohe residents who travel into town for work.
While mostly residential in nature, Kaneohe does have a limited amount of restaurants, stores, and malls. The commercial center of the town is spread mostly along Kamehameha Highway. Kaneohe is also home to attractions like the Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden, Hawaii National Veterans Cemetery, Heeia Kea, Coconut Island, and Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Additionally, golfers enjoy Kaneohe’s courses for their stunning greens and beautiful vistas of the Koolau Mountain Range. The Pali Golf Course, Koolau Golf Club, and Bayview Golf Park are Kaneohe’s preferred courses.
Additionally, the Kaneohe Bay provides white sand beaches, excellent swimming, fishing, boating, and even sandbars off shore during the low tide. Windward Community College and Hawaii Pacific University both have campuses in the Kaneohe area as well.
