In the days of ancient Hawaii, King Kamehameha I moored his war canoes in Kihei during his conquest of Maui. Today, Kihei still serves as a launch site for numerous boats and watercraft, but the city has also grown to include a variety of other attractions and activities. Home to 20,000 residents, Kihei has also grown to be the second largest city on the island of Maui. Halfway between Haleakala and the West Maui Mountains, Kihei is situated on Maui’s southern shore.
